Day 17 Monday - After a bit of a sleep in we arose and had a
coffee before heading down to the springs for a wake up swim, at 32 – 34 degrees
it doesn’t quite wake you up like a cool pool but a morning swim is just
divine. After dragging ourselves out of the springs we headed up and prepared
some lunch while John and Mitch once again tried their luck with the Rod. Ange
Josie Thomas and I headed into town to have a look at the supermarket and
headed out to Bitter Springs again to get some photos. Photos taken, we headed back to camp and
relaxed for a while before we decided to once again head back to bitter springs
for another float and swim. Nearing
5.00pm we decide that we better go back to camp and have some tea along with an
Ale or 2 of course. After tea the boys once again took the opportunity for one
last swim before we head off tomorrow while Ange and I hit the sack and check
up on the news on Facebook and the papers.
Day 18 Tuesday – Up early
today as we want to try and get to Edith Falls and get a camp. Nearing
Katherine I rang Edith Falls and they couldn’t tell me if there were sites
available or not but did mention that we should get there early as the school
holidays had just started up here and it may be busy. So I decide to change the plan a bit,
instead of getting to Edith Falls and risking it being full we decide to go to
Katherine (Nitmiluk) Gorge and stay there for 2 nights then try Edith Falls on
the way further north, If we can’t get in there we will try on the way down as
we would have done Katherine Gorge by then anyway. Fuelling up the cars we
completed a grocery shop and headed out to the Gorge. Once there we booked in
and set up camp while the boys (Yep you guessed it) hit the pool. Ange and I
then went to check out Gorge tours.
There was one left at 4.00 that we could get on so we booked that and
headed back and had a swim and relaxed for a while.
4.00 Oclock came around pretty quickly so we headed up to do the cruise. Ange the boys and I had done it before but it was just as spectacular as last time. A gentle cruise up the Gorge taking in the high cliffs, the serene water and the rock patterns along with the odd Freshwater Croc. Once the cruise was over we headed back to the van for tea, No 5s tonight as its a bit late so I did Hamburgers with the lot on the Weber. Once that was done we all just sat around and talked for a couple of hours before heading to bed.

Day 19 Wednesday –
Ange and I woke around 8.30 and decided that we would sneak up to the Cafe’ and
have a coffee and a bit of time without the boys. Once we got there Ange looked
at the Menu and saw “Eggs Benedict”, our
favourite. So we thought bugger it lets share one and we are so glad we did. It
was one of the best Eggs Benedict we have ever had Yummmm Ohhhh.
After scoffing that down we headed back to everyone else and planned our day. We decided to head into Katherine and go to the Hot Springs there (As if we hadn’t had enough Hot Springs!!!! - Nah actually we haven’t) so off we set. Thomas has decided that he would like to do a Helicopter ride over the Gorge with his savings so we called into one place on the way to Katherine but it looked pretty average so we told him to do the one at the Camp resort. Arriving in Katherine we found the Hot Springs and settled in for a swim, these ones were not as hot as Mataranka but were beautiful just the same so we spent a couple of hours there just lazing away in the water. As it was after lunch time we got out of the springs and sat and ate our pre packed Tuna and Salad containers that have become pretty popular on this trip. Easy to just make the salad up in the morning and add a tin of Tuna when your ready.
Lunch complete we headed back to the car and drove back into the CBD where I dropped Ange off at the supermarket while Mitch and I went and gave the car a wash. When the car was done Mitch and I snuck off to the Tackle shop for a look and was half way through when Ange rang and said she was waiting at the car wash for us!!!! Sprung bad I’m afraid. We picked her up and headed back to camp. Once there we went and booked Thomas’s Helicopter flight which was for 8.00 tomorrow morning and because there is a minimum of 2 people I have to go with him...... Darn it J. Back at camp we had a rest before having 5s and then Ange and I went and had a paddle in the pool before tea. After Tea we packed a fair bit of camp up, as we have to be at the Helicopter ride by 10 to 8 tomorrow and we want to try and get into Edith Falls tomorrow early and try and get some sites. Now I am sitting down doing this blog and hope to get it out with pictures before I go to bed.
